Broadstairs is rich in history in terms of the Architecture you’ll discover when walking around the town and surrounding area as well as its association with a certain Charles Dickens, who used to holiday here in Broadstairs and referred to Fort House; subsequently renamed Bleak House.

Quex Park in Birchington is a fabulous place for children to visit, catering for a wide range of ages. For the little ones you have Jungle Jims, and a huge play pen is the best way to describe where the kids can immerse themselves in unbridled fun. From Jungle Jims you can move straight on to the Cotton and Powell museum, which is an educational experience unrivalled in the near vicinity.

Take the Viking Trail via bicycle and experience the beauty of this stretch of coastline.

Margate Old Town is a bohemian and beautiful town where historic cobbles meet cutting-edge cultural trends. This artistic enclave is an uber-cool place to shop, eat and drink. Its cobbled lanes are full of bijou galleries, crammed with creativity – sometimes showcasing pieces artists have perfected in workshops right alongside.

All around, multi-coloured shop fronts form a celebration of independent traders. Here you can browse for almost anything: vintage fashion threads; cult clothing; deli delights; one-off artworks; artisan jewellery; comic books; cupcakes; fishing tackle and retro furnishings.

Turner Contemporary is the South East’s major new art gallery in Margate, and presents contemporary and historical art inspired by Britain’s best-loved painter JMW Turner in a stunning seaside setting.

Sandwich, just south of Broadstairs on the way to Deal, is a medieval town replete with amazing half-timbered buildings lovely walks and a river which runs out to the sea from which point you can take boat tours upstream.

Ramsgate has the only Royal harbour in the whole of the UK, decreed Royal by George IV after receiving hospitality before embarking to Hanover. This borders a yacht-packed marina, awash with history and overflowing with continental charm, it’s a must-see historic port. In Ramsgate, the water is irresistible – hop on a boat trip to spot seals on the Goodwin Sands, discover gorgeous beaches and bays, or view the Thanet Offshore Windfarm’s 100 turbines.

There are 7 bays and beaches in Broadstairs and St.Peter’s which form part of a wider network of 14 bays and beaches in the Thanet area.

In the summer months our beaches are very popular, we suggest avoiding busy periods to reduce crowding. Beach Check UK is an innovative new app which allows visitors to check the status of a beach before they arrive in order to avoid congested beaches and to encourage them to discover nearby alternatives that are quieter and less crowded.

There are many walks around Broadstairs but a favourite of ours is the cliff top walk to Ramsgate – turn right at the coast and continue along the cliff top past some elegant houses and into King George VI park (do seek out the small ornamental Georgian conservatory, with its fish scale bevelled glass panels, on the right) – stop for a break at the tea cabin then continue through the park and down into Ramsgate. View the wonderful harbour and seek out the quirky Belgian Café to the left with great value food and dozens of continental beers (they take Euro`s). Walk round the harbour to the right look at the powerful orange Pilot vessels and seek out the delightful little mariners’ church. Return to Broadstairs via the sea level promenade and enjoy the lovely white cliffs (noting tides times as a short length is beach only) or take one of the frequent ”Loop” buses linking Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate and enjoy a ride back.

A driving Range at Manston, Stonelees Golf at Sandwich, and North Foreland Golf Club (with 18 hole long and 9 hole short course) are all within 10 min by car. Royal St Georges at Sandwich is within a 20 min journey time. All are excellent and offer a wide range of golf.
